Re: LCCC’s Coronavirus Preparedness Plan
As is the case with many leaders throughout our community and America at-large, significant time is being spent here at LCCC following and learning as much as we can about how to help prevent spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19). Although new information about this public health crisis continues to emerge at a rapid pace, we want to update you on measures that have been taken and additional plans that are being evaluated within our organization.
While several short-term measures are underway at LCCC, we continue to monitor the situation closely and have begun following enhanced sanitizing and health standard protocols to help prevent the spread of viruses.
Here’s what we have done so far toward helping to create a safer environment and help prevent COVID-19 transmissions:
- Signage recommended by Metro Department of Health and Wellness, about how to prevent the spread of COVID-19, have been strategically posted throughout our Mini-Versity Child Development Center at 306 Roy Wilkins Boulevard , as well as our family service center and event spaces at 1300 W. Muhammad Ali Boulevard.
- Hand sanitizer dispensers have been located at our visitor receptionist desks, and additional dispensers are on order.
- Disinfection of counter-top, table, computer station and other surfaces located within program service centers have taken place, with plans for routine cleaning. Staff are instructed to continue to sanitize all surfaces frequently as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
- Our children and adults are reminded to conduct frequent hand-washing.
Additionally, we recommend everyone to follow these general preventive measures to help minimize the spread of germs in our community:
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water, for at least 20 seconds (especially after going to the bathroom), before eating, after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing and whenever you enter and leave locations.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
- Stay home when you are sick.
- Avoid handshaking and hugs. Use a slight bow, elbow bump, etc.
- Use ONLY your knuckle to touch light switches, elevator buttons, etc.
- Open doors with your closed fist or hip. Avoid grasping door handle with your hand, if possible. Especially important on bathroom doors.
- Keep a personal bottle of hand sanitizer available for use after touching frequently used surfaces, when you can’t immediately wash your hands.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a household cleaning spray or wipe. Use disinfectant wipes where available, to clean frequently handled surfaces.
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
- If you have recently traveled to an area that is known to have experienced an outbreak of Coronavirus, please watch closely for symptoms which may include: fever, cough and shortness of breath.
It is also important that families have an emergency plan in place, including knowing your emergency contacts, having backup plans for the probability of school cancellation, closing of child care centers, work cancellation, etc.
Additionally, LCCC is currently in process of evaluating the immediate impact the COVID-19 crisis will have on the operation of our programs, services and community events.
Decisions are being evaluated and will be announced soon with regard to the following:
- March 19th Agency Annual Meeting – Lyman T. Johnson Awards program – POSTPONED
- March 20th production of Children About The Stage (C.A.T.S.) at Central High School – POSTPONED
- Daily operation of Mini-Versity Child Development Center
- Daily operation of Out-of-School-Time programs: Kids Art Academy, theater troupes, etc.
- Daily operation of Adult Service programs, GED program, Money Matters Club, etc.
- Other routine program and services t.b.a.
LCCC’s leadership is committed to staying abreast of newly emerging information regarding this national crisis. We pledge to keep you abreast of how this issue affects our decision-making, operations and service delivery. Our goal is to do as much as we can to cooperate with national, state and local leadership, while helping our children, families and community to maintain as much normalcy as is feasible in the wake of our crisis.
