The Increasing Economic Opportunity Through Asset Security Initiative is a partnership among Metro United Way and service providers who are committed to improving the asset security and financial stability of individuals residing in some of Louisville’s most challenged neighborhoods. This initiative works with participants using a coaching approach to set and achieve goals that lead to financial stability and independence. It relies on a tight network of quality service providers, the provision of multiple services, and builds peer engagement opportunities for participants.

Job Summary
The Financial Coach is a full-time, non-exempt/exempt position and will serve as a team member for this collaborative project. The Financial Coach will be the champion for the participants involved in this program and will help assess participants’ situations, capabilities and obstacles to determine what services are required to meet their holistic needs and then serve as their advocate as they navigate the complex service systems to work toward their economic goals.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
• Conducts assessments with participants when they become involved with the program to determine needs and
capabilities
• Works with participants to determine their financial goals and jointly creates action plans to achieve
their goals
• Monitors progress of participants and their action plans
• Maintains statistical information as required for documentation by the operations agency, prepares reports
and correspondence, as needed.
• Explores and provides information for participants on available community services/resources
• Serves as advocate on behalf of participants with other agencies to obtain services to meet their goals
• Escorts and/or transports family leader and/or child to needed services, as appropriate
• Assists with locating and supporting primary needs such as housing, food, utility or other services
• Works with participants to help them meet their responsibility to the project
• Creates, organizes and maintains case files
• Helps plan and deliver meaningful peer engagement activities related to asset security and financial
independence
• Attends and actively participates in training, meetings, and agency events and activities as assigned
• Performs other related duties as required

Minimum Requirements
• Experience in navigating the social service system, personally or as a professional
• Willingness to meet challenges with determination, perseverance, and grace
• Bachelors Degree in Social Work or related field – an equivalent combination of training and/or life
experience may be substituted.
Special requirements
• Must be willing to work non-standard work schedule including nights and weekends
• Must have access to reliable transportation (Statement of valid driver’s license and applicable insurance
is required)

• Physical Demands: The incumbent will spend considerable time at remote metro locations where assistance
with physical demands may not be readily available. Additional physical activities include talking and
listening, sitting, standing, reading, and working at a computer terminal.
• Work environment: This work is performed primarily at service locations and residential sites in the
community and in environments that may be somewhat challenging. Evening and/or weekend work is required.
Position requires considerable driving in local area and may require the incumbent to drive at night and/or
in inclement weather.
• Machines, tools & equipment: Computer and various applications, printer, photocopy machine, fax machine,
telephone, automobiles, cell phone, calculator, and shredder.
